Setting up your Ampler bike

Thank you for choosing Ampler Bikes! Here's how to get it ready to roll.

These instructions also apply to Generation 2 models, with optical differences for the packaging & model.
Check the pedals after the second or third ride!

Check out the video guide here:

Please also follow our step-by-step guide:

1. Remove the protective packaging
Unlike the video, we now only use paper packaging.
You can leave the bike in the cardboard stand for the time being.
Unlike the photo and video, your box may be opened from the side. Be sure to immediately remove the staples after opening the box! We would recommend keeping the box if you have the space.
2. Installing the pedals
When installing the pedals, make sure you do not mix up the sides, tighten the pedals properly and check them carefully after the first few rides. Watch this video:
For the Axel and Juna models a washer may be included, these are not necessary for installation.
First screw the pedals in by hand a few turns. When facing the pedals and crank, you need to turn the thread into the direction of travel.
If this does not work smoothly, it might be that you have accidentally swapped the pedals or screwed them in crookedly.
When the first threads are screwed in, lead the hex key through the hole in the crank arm and fully tighten the pedals (35 Nm). Check the pedals after the second or third ride!
3. Installing the reflectors
Insert the reflector into the bottom of the front light so that there is a clicking sound.  They might come pre-installed on some models.
On models with LED seatposts or Axel and Juna: Assemble the rear reflector and attach the clamp around the top part of the seat post.
Generation 2 Stout and Stellar models come with an integrated reflector in the rear light - no extra reflector necessary.
Only for Curt: To attach the spoke reflectors, first remove the round plastic bolt, then clamp the reflector between the spokes. Turn the round plastic bolt in clockwise until it clicks.
All other models have tyres with reflective sidewalls - no tyre reflectors necessary.
4. Setting up the handlebar
Loosen the stem clamping bolts and straighten the handlebars. Do not tighten the bolts yet.
Positon yourself over the top tube and feel the cover between frame and steerer. If you move the bike back and forth with the front brake applied, you may feel the cover between the frame and headset move.
Remember: your stem clamping bolts are still loose! Gently tighten the upper bolt of the stem cap until the cover no longer moves. It is absolutely vital for your stem clamping bolts to remain loose while tightening the stem cap bolt.
Do not fix the bolts on Curt too tightly, as this model has a Carbon fork and steerer. The maximum torque for the stem clamping bolts is 6nm, the ahead cap torque should not exceed 2nm.
Now tighten the two stem clamping bolts evenly. Check whether the handlebars can be moved freely from left to right. If not, loosen the stem clamping bolts and check the stem cap bolt again.
5. Setting up the saddle height
For adjusting the saddle height, loosen the seatpost clamp bolt and fix it approximately at hip height.
Follow these steps next:
  1. Prop yourself up safely against a wall or stable furniture and sit on the saddle
  2. Bring one of the pedals to the lowest point with your heel. Guide the crank arm so it forms one straight line with the seat tube. In this position your heel should be able to reach the pedal with your knee comfortably extended but not agressively pushed through.
  3. If you now place your forefoot on the pedal, your leg should be slightly bent.

6. Activating the e-bike and charging it
For Generation 2 models, the bike is only "activated" after you connect the charger and switch on the bike. The battery level is between 40% - 90% when you receive your Ampler Bike.
First, make absolutely sure the charging port on the bike, as well as the charging plug is clean, dry and free of any metallic objects.
Plug the charging plug into the port on the bike and then plug your charger into the wall socket, without a multi-plug in between.
Read the warning instructions for your Ampler charger in the manual.
The charger LED light switches from green to red which indicates active charging.
When the bike is charged to 100%, the LED light switches to green and the charging process ends automatically.

Next up, we will show you how to use the power button.
